CORPUS CHRISTI, TX \u2013 At today\u2019s regularly scheduled City Council meeting, the City Council approved a three-year Treated Water Supply Contract and Water Rights Lease Agreement with Nueces County Water Control and Improvement District No. 3 (NCWCID#3), strengthening regional water security.<\/p>\n
Under the agreement, the City will provide up to 3 million gallons per day (MGD) of treated water to the District during emergency conditions. In exchange, NCWCID#3 will lease 5 MGD of its senior water rights in the Nueces River Basin to the City for the contract term.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis cooperative arrangement ensures continuity of service for District customers by strengthening both water systems,\u201d said Corpus Christi Water Interim Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Winkelmann.<\/p>\n
The agreement includes the construction of infrastructure required for the interconnection, including a 16-inch water line connection and a 300,000-gallon storage tank. The NCWCID#3 will own and maintain the facility, with the City reimbursing the District for construction costs.\u00a0 The engineering design for these improvements has been completed, and it is expected that bids to construct the project will be received in the near future.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIn any water supply system, an interconnection provides significant benefit and additional resilience,\u201d said Winkelmann. \u201cThis agreement is just another example of how the Coastal Bend continues to work together.\u201d<\/p>\n
