The Houston Rockets<\/a> were hit with a major injury blow before reaching training camp ahead of the 2025-2026 NBA season. Fred VanVleet was in danger of missing the season before the first game tipped off.<\/p>\n

While the Rockets remain one of the top teams in the Western Conference, despite lacking the veteran playmaker and scorer once again, the Rockets have been viewed as a team that could be in the market for a ball-handler.<\/p>\n

The NBA veteran Spencer Dinwiddie has recently made it clear that he would be open to getting involved if the Rockets were willing to make the call to bring him on.<\/p>\n

Spencer Dinwiddie Sends a Message<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love to go to the Rockets,\u201d Dinwiddie said recently<\/a>. \u201cOne of my best NBA friends, Dorian Finney-Smith, is on the Rockets. \u201cThe VanVleet injury really hurt them. I think they have all the makings of a championship-type team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although the Rockets took a slide down the Western Conference standings earlier in the season, they recently managed to climb within the top-five, jumping the Los Angeles Lakers<\/a> for the fourth seed.<\/p>\n

With a 28-16 record, the Rockets are in the midst of a two-game winning streak and have collected wins in six of their last 10 games. They are 0.5 games in front of the 28-17 LA Lakers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have young talent in Smith and Thompson, they got a great post-up threat and creator in Sengun, all-time, all-world scorer in KD,\u201d Diwnwiddie explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think a guard can go in there, catch and shoot off of Sengun and KD, set the table in terms of just taking some of the though process off, setting the table in terms of KD and Sengun and just letting them score. Let them do their thing, and just let them be the free offensive talents they are, that would definitely help.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old guard is currently on the open market. Last year, he played out the final year of his deal with the Dallas Mavericks<\/a>. Dinwiddie signed with the Charlotte Hornets<\/a> on a one-year deal back in July. He ended up missing final cuts, getting waived by the Hornets on October 16.<\/p>\n

Dinwiddie tested a run overseas with FC Bayern Munich. He returned due to personal reasons earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Last year, Dinwiddie appeared in 79 games for the Mavs. He averaged 11.0 points while shooting 41 percent from the field and 33 percent from deep. The veteran guard dished out 4.4 assists per game and came down with 2.6 rebounds per game.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think all of the makings are there [for the Rockets],\u201d he finished. \u201cI would absolutely love to play there. We\u2019ll see what happens with the trade deadline and all the stuff going on.\u201d<\/p>\n
