{"id":141524,"date":"2026-01-28T19:16:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-28T19:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/141524\/"},"modified":"2026-01-28T19:16:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-28T19:16:20","slug":"former-lubbock-star-chavez-on-a-tear-for-no-10-oklahoma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/141524\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Lubbock Star Chavez on a Tear for No. 10 Oklahoma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NORMAN, OK \u2014 Aaliyah Chavez hasn\u2019t taken long to become a force in the world of women\u2019s college basketball.<\/p>\n<p>The former top-ranked recruit in the nation out of Lubbock Monterey High School was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday for the sixth time this season.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez has stepped right into the starting lineup for No. 10-ranked Oklahoma and leads the Sooners with 19.1 points per game.<\/p>\n<p>She helped Oklahoma upset No. 2 South Carolina last Thursday, followed by a road win over Auburn on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The 5-foot-10 guard averaged 22 points, six assists and three rebounds during last week\u2019s games.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez is one of only five players nationally \u2014 and the only freshman \u2014 averaging at least 19 points, 4.2 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game, putting her on pace to join Hannah Hidalgo, Paige Bueckers and Clark as the only freshmen since 2009 to reach those marks.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez and the Sooners return to action Thursday when they host Texas A&amp;M at 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
