As U.S. airlines work to recover from days of snow and ice, American Airlines is facing turbulence of its own.<\/p>\n
Fort Worth-based American has led the industry in flight cancellations following a massive winter storm that stretched from Texas to Massachusetts. From Friday through Tuesday, the airline canceled more than 10,000 flights, about 39% of its scheduled operations, according to industry data.<\/p>\n
By comparison, Delta Air Lines canceled about 18% of its flights during the same period, while United Airlines canceled roughly 15.5%. Overall, U.S. airlines scrubbed 22,013 flights because of the storm.<\/p>\n
\u201cTeams across American continue to work around the clock to fully restore our operation,\u201d the airline said in its most recent statement about the storm. \u201cCancellations are not what we want for our customers or our team members, and teams across the airline are working diligently to minimize them.\u201d<\/p>\n
American\u2019s operational struggles come as it also reported its first quarterly earnings miss after six straight quarters of beating Wall Street expectations. The airline said the storm could reduce revenue by as much as $200 million in the current quarter.<\/p>\n
Adding to the pressure, American was singled out last week by The Wall Street Journal, along with Frontier Airlines, as among the worst-performing U.S. airlines of 2025.<\/p>\n
