{"id":142325,"date":"2026-01-29T06:40:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T06:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/142325\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T06:40:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T06:40:09","slug":"historic-1914-courthouse-demolition-approved-with-2-million-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/142325\/","title":{"rendered":"Historic 1914 Courthouse demolition approved with $2 million funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NUECES COUNTY, Texas \u2014 After sitting empty for nearly 50 years, a piece of Corpus Christi history is finally coming down.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the TIRZ #3 Board approved a Reimbursement Agreement with Nueces County in support of the demolition of the 111 year old 1914 Nueces County Courthouse. The board is putting up $2 million to get the job done \u2014 with no requirement for future redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p>County officials have attempted for nearly <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kristv.com\/news\/local-news\/in-your-neighborhood\/corpus-christi\/downtown\/county-threatens-tirz-withdrawal-wins-right-to-apply-for-2-million-demolition-reimbursement\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">five decades<\/a> to find a solution for the abandoned courthouse, which has stood vacant since 1977. <\/p>\n<p>The 111-year-old building has been vacant since 1977 and has become a safety concern for many.  City and county leaders say once it&#8217;s gone, the area will be safer and developers will have a clean slate to work with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a smart investment in our community\u2019s growth,&#8221; said Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo. &#8220;Clearing unsafe and blighted structures paves the way for new development, strengthens property values, and supports a stronger downtown. We appreciate Nueces County\u2019s partnership in moving these revitalization efforts forward.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>The 1914 Nueces County Courthouse has an extensive history.
