EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A 30-year-old man was arrested after a SWAT standoff over the weekend in connection with a murder in Socorro. <\/p>\n
According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 25, Socorro police officers responded to a possible aggravated assault on the 10500 block of Monte Alto, where they found 35-year-old Eduardo Contreras dead.<\/p>\n
The El Paso County Sheriff\u2019s Office Major Crimes Unit, with help from the Texas Rangers, took over the investigation. <\/p>\n
The investigation led to the El Paso Police Department SWAT and Crisis Management Team (CMT) units being dispatched to the 3100 block of N. Piedras. <\/p>\n
When police arrived, CMT personnel negotiated with the suspect, 30-year-old Gabriel Ontiveros, who surrendered without incident. <\/p>\n
A search warrant was executed at 3101 N. Piedras, leading to a murder charge against Ontiveros. <\/p>\n
He was re-booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with no bond, alongside five outstanding criminal warrants. <\/p>\n
Sheriff Ugarte said, \u201cThis case reflects the strong collaboration between our partner agencies and their shared commitment to holding offenders accountable. We appreciate the efforts of all personnel involved in bringing this investigation to a safe and successful resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n
