The Denton Black Film Festival was created to address under-representation in film and media by giving Black stories an audience and Black creatives a platform. Featuring over 95 films, live performances, music, art, tech showcases, and more, highlights include opening night film, Quakertown USA, the documentary Bastards of Soul, the documentary A Portrait of a Postman, and a closing night concert by Kandace Springs. The festival takes place through Sunday at multiple venues in Denton.<\/p>\n
Casa Ma\u00f1ana will present the iconic music of Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, alongside the hits of Wilson Pickett, one of soul\u2019s most dynamic voices. With her soaring vocals and striking charisma, Franklin gave the world masterpieces like \u201cRespect,\u201d \u201c(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,\u201d and \u201cThink.\u201d Performers include Destinee Rea and Curtis Wiley. The production runs through February 22 in the Reid Cabaret Theatre at Casa Ma\u00f1ana.<\/p>\n
Rising vocal stars Shel\u00e9n Hughes Camacho, soprano, and Joseph Parrish, baritone, will make their Cliburn Concerts debut alongside Amir Farid, piano, performing a program that spans spirituals, opera, art song, and musical theater. The concert takes place in the Renzo Piano Pavilion at Kimbell Art Museum.<\/p>\n
Your town stands at a crossroads. A neighbor – desperate and out of options – has struck a dangerous bargain. Now, their fate lies in your hands. In this interactive play presented as a town hall gathering, the audience must choose: mercy or justice? Liz Mikel plays a lone storyteller who weaves a world through music and magic – part fable, part call-and-response. The future of the town – and the fate of a soul – hang in the balance. The play, making its regional premiere, is a co-production with Dallas Theater Center. It will run through February 15 at Stage West Theatre.<\/p>\n
Singer Wynn Williams is a true cowboy turned country music artist. After graduating from college in 2016, the Weatherford native and steer wrestler swapped his spurs for a guitar. He has released a number of EPs and albums in his 10-year music career, most recently Country Therapy in 2025. He’ll make his debut at Billy Bob’s Texas.<\/p>\n
Set in 1977 and based on a true story, Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsg\u00e5rd), a former real estate developer, uses a shotgun fitted with a dead man\u2019s switch to hold hostage the mortgage banker who did him wrong (Dacre Montgomery), demanding $5 million and a personal apology. The film, which also features performances by Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Kelly Lynch, and Al Pacino, will screen seven times through Sunday at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.<\/p>\n
Audiences can watch the timeless Disney classic The Lion King on the big screen as the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra brings every note to life, performing the complete score live on stage. Families can share the nostalgia of songs like \u201cCircle of Life\u201d and \u201cHakuna Matata\u201d while creating cherished new memories among their pride. Annie Lederman, who tours worldwide as a stand-up comedian, recently wrote and produced on Showtime\u2019s Who is America? For the third time in a row, Oklahoma country band Turnpike Troubadours will play multiple nights in a row for their visit to Billy Bob’s Texas. The band has been recording music since 2007, but they hit their stride with their three albums in the late 2010s\/early 2020s, each of which made the top 10 on the Billboard Country chart and ranked high on the overall Billboard 200 as well. They’ll play every night through Sunday in support of their 2025 album, The Price of Admission.<\/p>\n
