(Michael Minasi | KUT News)<\/p>\n<p>Monday is the deadline to register to vote in Texas for the March 3 primary election. Voters get to decide who will appear on the November ballot for a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kut.org\/politics\/2025-12-09\/texas-2026-midterms-will-shape-the-u-s-house-senate-and-more-here-are-the-biggest-races\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">range of elected offices<\/a>, including governor, attorney general, U.S. House and Senate, and seats in the Texas Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>You can check to see if you\u2019re registered to vote through <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/goelect.txelections.civixapps.com\/ivis-mvp-ui\/#\/login\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">this Texas Secretary of State<\/a> voter portal. If you\u2019re not, here\u2019s what you need to know.<\/p>\n<p>What do I need to do to vote?<\/p>\n<p>You must be registered by Monday in the county you live in to vote in the March 3 election.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.votetexas.gov\/register-to-vote\/eligibility-for-registration.html\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">To be eligible to register, you must:<\/a><\/p>\n<p>be a U.S. citizen<br \/>\nbe a resident of the county you are applying to vote in<br \/>\nbe at least 18 years old by Election Day<br \/>\nnot have been declared mentally incapacitated by a court<br \/>\nnot be a convicted felon (though <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sll.texas.gov\/faqs\/felony-conviction-vote\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">you may be eligible<\/a> if you were pardoned or completed your sentence, probation and parole)<\/p>\n<p>In Texas, you cannot register to vote online \u2014 unless you are <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.votetexas.gov\/register-to-vote\/update-voter-registration.html\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">renewing, replacing or updating<\/a> your Texas driver\u2019s license or state ID on the Department of Public Safety website.<\/p>\n<p>To submit your registration application by mail, you <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vrrequest.sos.texas.gov\/VoterApplication\/ConfirmStatusEN\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">can fill out the form<\/a> online, and then print, sign and mail it to your county elections office. But you should be aware of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/about.usps.com\/newsroom\/statements\/010226-postmarking-myths-and-facts.htm\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">recent changes at the U.S. Postal Service<\/a> that might affect the postmark date on your mail. If you\u2019ve moved to a different county and don\u2019t update your address by the deadline, you may be required to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.votetexas.gov\/faq\/registration.html\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">cast a limited ballot<\/a> in your new county during early voting.<\/p>\n<p>What kind of ID will I need to register or vote?<\/p>\n<p>To register to vote, you can use your Texas driver\u2019s license or Texas personal ID number issued by DPS. If you don\u2019t have either of those, you can use the last four digits of your Social Security number.<\/p>\n<p>When you head to the polls, you will need to present one of these valid forms of photo ID:<\/p>\n<p>Texas driver\u2019s license<br \/>\nTexas election identification certificate<br \/>\nTexas personal ID card<br \/>\nTexas handgun license<br \/>\nU.S. military photo ID<br \/>\nU.S. citizenship certificate with photo<br \/>\nU.S. passport<\/p>\n<p>The ID can be expired for up to four years. If you\u2019re 70 or older, you can bring a photo ID that has been expired for any length of time.<\/p>\n<p>If you couldn\u2019t get one of the above forms of ID, you can use a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.votetexas.gov\/voting\/need-id.html\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">supporting form of identification<\/a> like a bank statement or utility bill.
