CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Registered nurses in Corpus Christi will hold a vigil Thursday evening to honor a Minnesota nurse who\u00a0was killed\u00a0and to call for changes to federal immigration enforcement policies.<\/p>\n

In a press release from the National Nurses United (NNU), nurses from Corpus Christi Medical Center are organizing a vigil to remember Alex Pretti, a registered nurse who federal officers killed in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n

Organizers say the vigil will also recognize others they believe have died in connection with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).<\/p>\n

The vigil is scheduled for\u00a06:45 p.m. on Thursday at Doctors Regional Medical Center, located at the corner of\u00a0South Alameda Street and Texan Trail in Corpus Christi.<\/p>\n

Organizers say participants will call on Congress to stop additional funding for ICE and reverse current funding levels.<\/p>\n

NNU said nurses have raised concerns about immigration enforcement in communities and detention facilities, citing reports of deaths in ICE custody and concerns about medical care.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Petti’s death is the latest incident to have drawn national attention.<\/p>\n
