{"id":143207,"date":"2026-01-29T22:25:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T22:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/143207\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T22:25:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T22:25:11","slug":"hisd-expands-access-to-16-high-demand-career-programs-through-barbara-jordan-career-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/143207\/","title":{"rendered":"HISD expands access to 16 high-demand career programs through Barbara Jordan Career Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Houston_ISD\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/topic\/Houston_ISD\/\">Houston ISD<\/a> is expanding access to career and technical education, adding 16 updated programs at the Barbara Jordan Career Center starting next school year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Beginning next school year, students from 10 HISD high schools will have access to programs focused on high-demand, high-wage career fields, including information technology, engineering, health, human services and skilled trades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">District leaders say the updates are designed to better align classroom learning with real-world skills employers are seeking across the Houston region.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">At the same time, the BJCC is undergoing a significant expansion and modernization. The upgraded facility will feature state-of-the-art equipment and workspaces designed to mirror real industry environments. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">HISD expects the modernization to support hands-on learning opportunities such as internships, externships and student-led enterprises for more than 4,000 students by 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The district acknowledged that some CTE offerings are being phased out at individual home campuses. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">HISD officials say students currently enrolled in those programs will be allowed to complete their existing programs of study. Skills from phased-out pathways will also be integrated into related courses as electives or extracurricular opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">District superintendent Mike Miles has also outlined plans to further expand modernized CTE programming districtwide.
