Weather Impact Alert for a freeze likely on Feb. 1. See where and when it will be the coldest in the Coastal Bend.<\/p>\n

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 High pressure builds over the Northern Plains this weekend, and that will send in a surge of reinforcing cold air into the Coastal Bend. The coldest air is expected to target the Southeast, but freezing temperatures will remain possible in South Texas on Saturday night\/Sunday morning. It will not be as cold as last weekend, and temperatures will not drop below freezing as long as last Sunday night.\u00a0<\/p>\n

FRIDAY NIGHT\/ SATURDAY MORNING: will start off with clouds, but skies will clear into Saturday morning. I think we see enough clouds to help keep temperatures above freezing for the majority of the Coastal Bend Saturday morning. Remember clouds like a blanket at night, keeping the heat naturally emitted from the earth trapped closer to the surface. Be ready for temperatures in the mid-30s and wind chills in the upper 20s. Northern Counties may have a brief light freeze Saturday, but right now the forecast keeps everyone just above freezing Saturday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SATURDAY: Skies will be clear on Saturday morning, and there will be plenty of sunshine in the afternoon. However, the wind picks up out of the north, northeast as the high pressure builds on Saturday. That will continue to bring colder air into South Texas. Even with sunshine, Saturday will likely be colder than Friday. The sunshine may make it more enjoyable, though.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SATURDAY NIGHT\/ SUNDAY MORNING:\u00a0Clear skies on Saturday night will mean temperatures will cool further, thanks to radiational cooling. Heat that’s naturally emitted from the earth will escape into the atmosphere. Clear skies, along with additional Arctic air, mean freezing temperatures are possible on Sunday morning. We are highlighting Sunday morning with a Weather Impact Alert due to the risk of freezing temperatures.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A light freeze is likely across the Coastal Bend, except for maybe areas along the coast. A hard freeze is possible for the northern counties. I suggest keeping your outdoor pipes wrapped or covered. Areas north of Corpus Christi should monitor the forecast to determine whether dripping the faucet is necessary. Plants will need to be covered and brought back inside.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, here is what you can do to prepare for a possible hard freeze, when temperatures are expected to fall below 28 degrees.\u00a0
\u2022 Drain and wrap exterior pipes, and cover exterior faucets. Drain sprinkler systems and check your pool equipment, too.
\u2022 Ensure pets and livestock have adequate warmth and shelter, or bring them inside if at all possible.
\u2022 Cover sensitive vegetation and bring potted plants inside.
\u2022 Drip indoor faucets during freezing temperatures. Do\u00a0not drip outdoor faucets.
\u2022 Open cabinetry with plumbing inside to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.
\u2022 Make sure you leave your heat on at least 55\u00b0F, even if you won’t be home.<\/p>\n
