{"id":144284,"date":"2026-01-30T16:53:09","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T16:53:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/144284\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T16:53:09","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T16:53:09","slug":"tea-approves-almost-all-of-austin-isds-turnaround-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/144284\/","title":{"rendered":"TEA approves almost all of Austin ISD&#8217;s turnaround plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Austin, TEXAS \u2014 The plan for Austin Independent School District to improve its underperforming campuses is off and now majorly supported by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).<\/p>\n<p>Austin ISD superintendent Matias Segura said on Thursday that the TEA approved 22 out of 24 of the district\u2019s Turnaround Plans (TAPs) without requiring any adjustments. The plans were submitted in November 2025 when the district\u2019s board of trustees <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/tx\/south-texas-el-paso\/news\/2025\/11\/21\/austin-isd-moves-forward-with-plans-to-close-10-schools#:~:text=This%20is%20not%20leadership.,10.\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">approved a motion<\/a> to consolidate and close 10 schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis reinforces the confidence TEA has in the work Austin ISD is undertaking and is an important affirmation of the school improvement work already underway on our campuses,\u201d Segura said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austinisd.org\/announcements\/tea-approves-22-24-turnaround-plans-final-two-track-approval-en-espanol\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Plans for\u00a0Wid\u00e9n Elementary School and Winn Montessori School were the only two not approved by the agency.\u00a0Segura said TEA requires \u201cadditional information\u201d before approval but that once that information is provided, they expect those to be approved as well. Segura said district officials need to provide TEA with more details around the funding to support reassigned students from those campuses.<\/p>\n<p>TEA requires TAPs for schools that have received consecutive failing accountability ratings from the agency.<\/p>\n<p>Segura said the district\u2019s next major focus is implementation for the 2026-27 school year, including teacher assignments among the turnaround campuses.
