{"id":144415,"date":"2026-01-30T19:17:07","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T19:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/144415\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T19:17:07","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T19:17:07","slug":"north-texas-restaurants-shutter-adjust-operations-today-as-part-of-ice-out-movement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/144415\/","title":{"rendered":"North Texas restaurants shutter, adjust operations today as part of ICE Out movement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/\">restaurants<\/a> and food businesses in Dallas-Fort Worth adjusted operations on Friday, Jan. 30, as part of a \u201cNational Day of Action.\u201d The effort, which is part of the ICE Out movement, aims to protest against federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/immigration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/immigration\/\">immigration<\/a> policy and the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) across the U.S. by keeping stores closed and ceasing economic activity, among other recourses.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">While some local businesses remained closed Friday as part of the protest, others still opened their doors while publicly expressing support of the cause. Some said they plan to donate part of their profits to immigrant advocacy organizations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s a way to express my love and support for all the families who are going through something like this,\u201d said Britany G\u00fcereca, owner of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/08\/28\/cafe-ciro-coffee-shop-pleasant-grove-dallas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2025\/08\/28\/cafe-ciro-coffee-shop-pleasant-grove-dallas\/\">Cafe\u2019Ciro<\/a> in Dallas\u2019 Pleasant Grove neighborhood, one of the businesses that closed its doors Friday. \u201cToday it may be them, and tomorrow it could be us. We can\u2019t close our eyes to what\u2019s happening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Closing on Friday was a sacrifice for Cafe\u2019Ciro since it was already closed for three days over the past week due to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/winter-storm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/winter-storm\/\">winter storm<\/a>. We have to take care of each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">The latest ICE Out action comes after massive protests in cities like Minneapolis, where ICE agents fatally shot two people protesting immigration policies. The effort to keep stores and restaurants closed, among other actions, is expected to last through Saturday, Jan. 31. There are also protests planned for the day nationwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Some of the North Texas restaurants and cafes have expressed their support for the movement, but remain open are trying to recover from the economic blow of last weekend\u2019s forced closure due to the winter storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">One such restaurant is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2025\/11\/07\/resident-taqueria-dallas-lake-highlands-menu-what-to-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2025\/11\/07\/resident-taqueria-dallas-lake-highlands-menu-what-to-order\/\">Resident Taqueria<\/a> in northeast Dallas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe stand with our immigrant families and support the national closure,\u201d it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUIxhFvDdgu\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUIxhFvDdgu\/?hl=en\">posted<\/a> on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Picone, an Italian restaurant in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/denton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/denton\/\">Denton<\/a>, is another that wanted to close its doors, but due to the closure in recent days, was unable to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cWe are a small business that only opens four days a week. After closing early Friday and all day Saturday last weekend, we can\u2019t really swing closing on another busy day,\u201d the business <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUHihVQjhpZ\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUHihVQjhpZ\/?hl=en\">posted<\/a> on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Other businesses will donate part of their profits to organizations that support the immigrant community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2016\/04\/07\/cultivar-coffee-graduates-to-standalone-shop-and-cafe-in-oak-cliff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2016\/04\/07\/cultivar-coffee-graduates-to-standalone-shop-and-cafe-in-oak-cliff\/\">Cultivar Coffee<\/a> will donate $1 per transaction between Friday and Sunday to the Human Rights Initiative of North Texas, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUHVqHlDB25\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUHVqHlDB25\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\">post<\/a> on Instagram, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2025\/02\/03\/dallas-brewery-makes-sell-the-team-beer-in-response-to-luka-doncic-trade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2025\/02\/03\/dallas-brewery-makes-sell-the-team-beer-in-response-to-luka-doncic-trade\/\">Celestial Beerworks<\/a> will donate a portion of its profits to not-for-profit organization Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cOur hearts are SO heavy with what we\u2019re seeing,\u201d reads a post on Instagram from Celestial Beerworks. \u201cNo matter where you stand politically, we know you see this sick inhumanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/01\/25\/herbys-burgers-great-dallas-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/restaurant-news\/2024\/01\/25\/herbys-burgers-great-dallas-open\/\">Herby\u2019s Burgers<\/a> will donate 25% of its profits this Friday to Vecinos Unidos DFW, a local migrant support organization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">\u201cAt Herby\u2019s, we stand in solidarity with our neighbors and with those who are speaking out against devastating ICE practices that have caused harm to families across the country,\u201d it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUI4AV4AGo2\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUI4AV4AGo2\/?hl=en\">posted<\/a> on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/immigration\/2025\/09\/27\/now-we-are-even-more-afraid-dallas-immigrant-community-on-edge-after-ice-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/immigration\/2025\/09\/27\/now-we-are-even-more-afraid-dallas-immigrant-community-on-edge-after-ice-shooting\/\">Vecinos Unidos DFW<\/a> will also receive donations from Pull Through Coffee Bar, which will donate $1 for every transaction made this Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Olmo Market and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2023\/09\/07\/cocoandre-chocolatier-is-closing-its-oak-cliff-shop-after-15-years-but-its-not-goodbye\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/food\/2023\/09\/07\/cocoandre-chocolatier-is-closing-its-oak-cliff-shop-after-15-years-but-its-not-goodbye\/\">CocoAndr\u00e9 Chocolatier<\/a>, both in Oak Cliff, also announced their support for ICE Out.
