Groundbreaking ceremony helps kick off construction of new Taft High School<\/a><\/p>\nAttendees toured the facilities, snapped photos, and watched as a new chapter for Greyhound athletics began.<\/p>\n
Taft Athletic Director\u00a0Joe Riojas called it a long-awaited moment for the district.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an exciting day \u2014 highly anticipated, and it\u2019s finally here,\u201d Riojas said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great day to be a Greyhound.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new turf fields replace the district\u2019s former dirt surfaces, allowing athletes to train and compete in more consistent conditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow we can practice and play in pretty much any type of weather,\u201d Riojas said. \u201cThis is great for our student athletes and great for the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Riojas added that the improvements reflect Taft\u2019s continued growth as a district and community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are bigger and better things coming\u2026 giving our student athletes all the tools they need to be successful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The excitement carries into gameplay this afternoon, with the softball team holding its first scrimmage.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope to see everybody come out and check out the fields,\u201d Riojas said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s an exciting time.\u201d<\/p>\n
District leaders say the new complexes are designed not only to serve student athletes but also the broader Taft community for years to come.<\/p>\n
