Near-freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills are prompting the City of Corpus Christi to open overnight emergency refuge centers starting Friday evening.<\/p>\n
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Corpus Christi officials opened overnight emergency refuge centers Friday evening as near-freezing temperatures and dangerous wind chills are expected across the Coastal Bend.<\/p>\n
The City of Corpus Christi opened two emergency refuge centers at 5 p.m. Friday. The centers are scheduled to operate continuously through Sunday morning at 10 a.m., depending on weather conditions.<\/p>\n
The centers are located at Ben Garza Gym, 1815 Howard Street, and the Del Mar College Windward Campus FEMA Dome, 4101 Old Brownsville Road.<\/p>\n
In addition to the city-run sites, the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission is also participating as an overnight partner refuge center. The mission is located at 902 Nueces Bay Boulevard.<\/p>\n
Officials said transportation to the refuge centers is available at no cost through the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority.<\/p>\n
