EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Authorities tout several busts in the span of one week at the Zaragoza border crossing in El Paso’s Lower Valley. <\/p>\n

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, on the week of Jan. 18 to 24, officers at the Ysleta Port of Entry reported four busts, two of them involved thousands of dollars going into Ciudad Juarez, two involving the seizure of drugs coming into El Paso. <\/p>\n

On Jan. 24, CBP officers said that during an inspection, a drug sniffing dog discovered 22 bundles of cocaine (25.78 kilos) hidden inside a white 2017 Honda Civic, driven by a Mexican citizen, that was trying to enter El Paso.<\/p>\n

On Jan. 22, there were two busts:<\/p>\n

In one case, a drug sniffing dog alerted CBP officers to the presence of 13 bundles of cocaine (15.92 kilos) hidden in the trunk of a blue 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by an American citizen, that was trying to enter El Paso.In the second case, CBP officers with the Anti-Terrorism Contraband Enforcement Team and Mobile Enforcement Team found $40, 320 inside the jacket of the American driver of a 2012 Dodge Ram crossing from El Paso to Juarez.<\/p>\n

Then, on Jan. 21, CBP officers with MET found $38,371 in improperly declared currency in a white 2022 Nissan Pathfinder being driven into Juarez by an American man. <\/p>\n

The announcement came with a written statement by Ysleta’s Port Director, Arnoldo Gomez, who said:<\/p>\n

These significant narcotics and currency seizures indicate attempts by drug trafficking organizations to smuggle drugs north from the U.S.-Mexico border into U.S. communities and then repatriate the cash profits back south to fund criminal organizations in Mexico. By interdicting the flow of narcotics north and intercepting undeclared currency going south, our U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers have disrupted both the supply chain and profits of the Mexican Drug Cartels.Comment with Bubbles<\/p>\n
