EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A 30-year-old man who was arrested and charged with murder in Socorro was found on the roof of a residence, sparking a SWAT standoff over the weekend, according to an arrest affidavit. <\/p>\n
The incident happened on Sunday, Jan. 25, when Socorro police officers responded to a possible aggravated assault on the 10500 block of Monte Alto. <\/p>\n
According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KFOX14\/CBS4, police found 35-year-old Eduardo Contreras dead in the residence with a gunshot wound to the back of the head. <\/p>\n
The El Paso County Sheriff\u2019s Office Major Crimes Unit, with help from the Texas Rangers, took over the investigation.<\/p>\n
Investigators had identified 30-year-old Gabriel Manuel Ontiveros as the suspect, based on information from a woman who reported the incident. <\/p>\n
According to the affidavit, the woman had told police that Ontiveros, her ex-boyfriend, shot Contreras after becoming jealous when she returned home with him from a trip to Dollar General.<\/p>\n
That is when Ontiveros allegedly threatened the woman and her uncle, who was also at the residence at the time, warning them to remain silent, before fleeing, the affidavit states. <\/p>\n
The investigation led to the El Paso Police Department SWAT and Crisis Management Team (CMT) units being dispatched to the 3100 block of N. Piedras, where they located Ontiveros on the roof of a residence. <\/p>\n
Ontiveros, who said he was suicidal due to three outstanding warrants, was apprehended and taken to the El Paso County Detention Facility, the affidavit revealed. <\/p>\n
Detectives recovered a firearm, shell casings, and other evidence linking Ontiveros to the crime, with authorities stating that probable cause exists to charge Ontiveros with murder.<\/p>\n
