This season, one of the most impressive aspects of what Krista Gerlich and the No. 21 Texas Tech Lady Raiders have been able to accomplish this season is the way that Texas Tech has locked down and shut down opposing offenses in a fairly regular way. The Lady Raiders are among the absolute best in the Big 12 when it comes to slowing their opponents.\u00a0<\/p>\n
But it feels like, recently, that Texas Tech\u2019s defense has gone missing at some of the absolute worst possible times. I\u2019m not saying that the Lady Raiders\u2019 defensive skills have completely evaporated or anything along those lines, but I am saying that some of Texas Tech\u2019s recent opponents have seen a ton of offensive success against the Lady Raiders.\u00a0<\/p>\n
And that concerns me as the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs come to town. And unfortunately for the Lady Raiders, TCU will be bringing one of the Big 12\u2019s best offenses when they come to Lubbock.\u00a0<\/p>\n
How will No. 21 Texas Tech\u2019s defense perform as the Lady Raiders face off against the No. 12 TCU Horned Frogs in Lubbock?<\/p>\n
It\u2019s fair to say that, in some ways, Texas Tech\u2019s defense was responsible for that 19-0 start that the Lady Raiders experienced to get this season rolling. The national relevance and all of the fun and the wins? A rather significant amount of that success is from the fact that Texas Tech is holding folks to just 56 points per game (which is second best in the Big 12 right now).<\/p>\n
But something hasn\u2019t been right in recent games. Texas Tech has lost three of its last four outings. During that window of time, a Kansas State Wildcats team managed to score 65 points, BYU scored 73, and then Iowa State put up 84. All of those are essentially what those offenses managed to score per game this season.<\/p>\n
Texas Tech\u2019s defense didn\u2019t disrupt them at all. Or at least not enough. And now TCU\u2019s offense that is averaging 80.8 points per game is set to face off against Texas Tech.
