For Texas women’s basketball<\/a>, Sunday’s Red River Rivalry matchup is also a top-10 showdown.<\/p>\n

No. 4 Texas is set to host No. 10 Oklahoma at Moody Center for their only game against each other during the regular season. The two programs started\u00a0playing each other in 1979, but this marks just the second time in their 70-game series that both teams hold top-10 rankings. Last season, then-No. 5 Texas beat then-No. 9 Oklahoma in the SEC debuts for both schools.<\/p>\n

Texas (20-2, 5-2) and Oklahoma (17-4, 5-3) are also respectively tied for fifth and seventh place in the SEC standings. The race for a conference championship is currently led by South Carolina (21-2, 7-1).\u00a0<\/p>\n

A 10-point quarter from freshman guard Aaliyah Crump has helped Texas expand its advantage over its Red River rival. Crump entered the game for the first time today with 5:50 left in the second quarter, and she proceeded to knock down four of her five shots while also making two 3-pointers.<\/p>\n

Crump’s 10 points lead the Longhorns. Texas has also gotten nine points from Justice Carlton and seven points from Jordan Lee.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma was led by Payton Verhulst’s 10 points, three of which were tallied on a halfcourt heave at the buzzer. Oklahoma’s 24-point effort was its lowest-scoring first half of the season. The third-leading scoring team in the nation, Oklahoma scored 28 points over the first two quarters of last month’s 72-50 win over Texas A&M.<\/p>\n

2nd (4:22): Texas 30, Oklahoma 16<\/p>\n

As Oklahoma’s offense has continued to struggle against UT’s defense, the Longhorns have just built on their lead. A basket by Aaliyah Crump in which the Texas freshman drove past classmate Aaliyah Chavez forced Oklahoma to call a timeout.<\/p>\n

Crump became the sixth Longhorn to score this afternoon.<\/p>\n

About the only thing that hasn’t gone Texas way was a foul called on forward Justice Carlton at the 7:24 mark of the second quarter. That whistle led to an animated\u00a0response from\u00a0Vic Schaefer in which the Texas coach ripped off his coach and argued to no avail with referee Joseph\u00a0Vaszily.<\/p>\n

End 1: Texas 19, Oklahoma 10<\/p>\n

Justice Carlton has given Texas an early boost with a nine-point showing over this afternoon’s first 10 minutes. Three of those points were scored on a last-second 3-pointer, which was the fourth deep shot made by the sophomore forward this season.<\/p>\n

At 88.9 points per game, Oklahoma entered this game with the No. 3 scoring offense in the country. But in the first quarter, the Sooners shot 31.3% from the field, missed all six of their 3-pointers and committed five turnovers. Oklahoma leading scorer Aaliyah Chavez was held scoreless in the first quarter.<\/p>\n

1st (4:53): Texas 10, Oklahoma 6<\/p>\n

Behind four early points from both Justice Carlton and Madison Booker, Texas jumped out to a 10-4 lead on Sunday. Oklahoma has not yet gotten going offensively as leading scorer Aaliyah Chavez has missed both of her shots so far, and the team has committed three turnovers.<\/p>\n

Chavez was greeted with a loud round of boos during the pregame introductions, and a fan’s sign that said “Texas got the best Aaliyah” was even briefly shown on the arena’s jumbotron. Chavez and UT guard Aaliyah Crump were both top-five recruits in the Class of 2025, and Chavez chose Oklahoma over Texas and Texas Tech.<\/p>\n

Texas is up on Oklahoma in yearlong Red River Rivalry<\/p>\n

So far during the 2025-26 school year, the Texas athletic department owns a 3-1 lead over Oklahoma. That Longhorn lead includes a 79-69 win recorded by the Texas men’s basketball team on Saturday.<\/p>\n
