President Donald Trump<\/a> on Sunday denied he was involved in a Texas<\/a> special election for a state Senate seat after reiterating his endorsement<\/a> of the Republican candidate one day before the race.<\/p>\n

In two Truth Social posts<\/a> on Friday, Trump gave his \u201cComplete and Total Endorsement\u201d to conservative activist Leigh Wambsganss. Despite the president\u2019s support, she ultimately lost the special runoff election for Texas State Senate District 9 to Democratic contender Taylor Rehmet on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Rehmet\u2019s victory was especially encouraging to Democratic Party<\/a> leadership, considering the district is considered a red stronghold. In 2024, Trump won the district by 17 points.<\/p>\n

When asked about his reaction to Saturday\u2019s election results, Trump replied<\/a>, \u201cI don\u2019t know. I didn\u2019t hear about it. Somebody ran where?\u201d<\/p>\n

After the reporter clarified which race, Trump said, \u201cI\u2019m not involved in that. That\u2019s a local Texas race. You mean I won by 17 and this person lost? Things like that happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to say that it\u2019s unknown whether the results between the presidential election and the state legislative election were \u201ctransferable\u201d because he wasn\u2019t on the ballot this time around.<\/p>\n

He also ranted about Democrats, claiming their leadership leads to \u201copen borders\u201d and rampant crime. In contrast, the president touted his own administration for closing the southern border and reducing crime nationwide before concluding his thoughts on the Texas state Senate race.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know there\u2019s a race going there, and it\u2019s too bad,\u201d Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago<\/a> resort in Florida<\/a>. \u201cWhat can I say? I have nothing to do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Fort Worth-area district was once held by Republican Kelly Hancock for over a decade before he left office last year to become the acting Texas comptroller.<\/p>\n

While Trump downplayed it, the outcome of the race is a notable victory for Democrats who wish to maintain their momentum ahead of the midterm elections<\/a> this year.<\/p>\n

Democratic National Committee<\/a> Chairman Ken Martin celebrated Rehmet\u2019s win, saying it\u2019s part of a larger \u201cpattern\u201d and \u201cnot an anomaly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in Texas, Democratic candidate Christian Menefee defeated<\/a> a fellow Democrat to succeed late Democratic Rep. Sylvester Turner in the U.S. House. Menefee faces Rep.
