FORT WORTH (KFDX\/KJTL<\/a>) \u2014 An eloquent and pensive writer, San Antonio native John Baumann took his musical storytelling to a Fort Worth audience for a night of laughs and ballads.<\/p>\n

The musician performed Friday night, January 30, at The Post bar in Fort Worth.<\/p>\n

Baumann dabbled in songwriting before releasing his debut EP \u2018West Texas Vernacular\u2019 in 2012.<\/p>\n

Baumann pays ode to artists Reba McEntire, George Strait and Garth Brooks as early influences. Then in high school, he found the outlaws and legends of Texas songwriters like Guy Clark, Robert Earl Keen and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce I found that, the floodgates opened, and I just threw myself into it. [I] got completely obsessed and still totally fascinated by it and love it. [I] try to live up to what those guys do best,\u201d Baumann said.<\/p>\n

Baumann is one-fourth of the rural, rough West Texas group \u2018The Panhandlers\u2019. The musical quartet consists of Josh Abbott, William Clark Green and Cleto Cordeo of Flatland Calvary.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m honored to be in that group with those guys,\u201d Baumann said.<\/p>\n

Baumann\u2019s performance at The Post was sold out.<\/p>\n

The small stage held two of Baumann\u2019s guitars, his microphone, a couple speakers and a full set of Baumann\u2019s best songs.<\/p>\n

As the first of 12 months in 2026 wraps up, Baumann said he will mostly stay touring in Texas and a few surrounding states.<\/p>\n
