href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/1496\/Shady-Brook-Trail\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shady Brook Trail<\/a> through several projects, including repairing a damaged section of the trail near Midway Road.<\/p>\n<p>What you need to know<\/p>\n<p>At their Oct. 13 <a href=\"https:\/\/planotx.new.swagit.com\/videos\/357894\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">meeting<\/a>, Plano City Council members approved a $180,000 contract for design services needed to renovate a damaged section of Shady Brook Trail.<\/p>\n<p>The affected area, located east of Midway Road, has been closed since December 2024 due to \u201cunsafe conditions caused by undermining erosion,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/plano.novusagenda.com\/agendapublic\/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=10275&amp;MeetingID=3633\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">city documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&gt;<\/p>\n<p>Some context<\/p>\n<p>Plano city officials have been working to address ongoing city-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/plano-north\/government\/2025\/08\/25\/plano-officials-consider-drainage-rate-increase-looking-to-address-citywide-erosion\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">erosion<\/a> issues since authorizing a study in 2022 that evaluated more than 3,000 locations and ranked them by severity of erosion.<\/p>\n<p>Of those evaluated, 42 locations were rated \u201ccritical,\u201d which is the highest need for erosion protection, and require repairs costing approximately $10 million.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761091999_562_thumbnail.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"chart visualization\"\/>Additionally, 646 locations ranked between critical and medium erosion severity.<\/p>\n<p>Zooming in<\/p>\n<p>In August, council members also approved a $144,930 <a href=\"https:\/\/plano.novusagenda.com\/agendapublic\/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=10205&amp;MeetingID=3618\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">contract<\/a> to renovate a retaining wall at Woodland Creek Drive along the trail.<\/p>\n<p>A temporary repair was installed in October 2024, and construction on the retaining wall is expected to begin in spring 2026, according to Plano\u2019s community investment program <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plano.gov\/185\/Construction\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Plano officials also allocated <a href=\"https:\/\/plano.novusagenda.com\/agendapublic\/CoverSheet.aspx?ItemID=7437&amp;MeetingID=3328\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">funding<\/a> for streambank stabilization in the same
