EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The El Paso Independent School District is offering a $3,000 incentive to employees who choose to retire or resign by the end of the school year. <\/p>\n
The initiative aims to stabilize staffing and aid budget planning, according to district leaders. <\/p>\n
Leah Hanany, EPISD board president, emphasized the importance of “right sizing” the district. <\/p>\n
Ross Moore, El Paso AFT president, described the offer as “respectable” for those considering retirement or a career change. <\/p>\n
However, parent Joshua Lucero argued, “they deserve a little bit more.” <\/p>\n
The program targets campus staff, including teachers and coaches, and extends to certain central office positions. <\/p>\n
Employees must submit their resignation by Feb. 20 to receive the full amount, with a reduced offer for those who wait until Feb. 27. <\/p>\n
The funds will come from the general operating fund, and last year, the district paid out approximately $270,000 through a similar program, said Martha Aguirre, EPISD chief financial officer. <\/p>\n
Despite potential vacancies, Hanany noted that declining enrollment may offset the impact on remaining teachers’ workloads. Eligible employees will receive details via email.<\/p>\n
