{"id":148262,"date":"2026-02-03T00:27:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T00:27:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/148262\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T00:27:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T00:27:07","slug":"i-30-reopens-through-downtown-dallas-after-2nd-weekend-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/148262\/","title":{"rendered":"I-30 reopens through Downtown Dallas after 2nd weekend closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/tag\/i-30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Interstate 30<\/a> through downtown Dallas reopened Monday morning after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/i-30-canyon-dallas-closed-again-january-31-february-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">second full weekend closure<\/a>, with the Texas Department of Transportation completing demolition work and reopening all lanes on schedule.<\/p>\n<p>The shutdown, which followed a similar closure over Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, allowed crews to tear down major bridges as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/i-30-reopens-weekend-closure-canyon-project-downtown-dallas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">I-30 Canyon Corridor improvement project<\/a>. Photos and videos shared online showed large sections of the freeway stripped down to bare concrete.<\/p>\n<p>Some drivers expressed skepticism on social media, questioning how long the five-year project would take to complete.<\/p>\n<p>Dallas driver Xayvien Johnson said he was surprised the roadway reopened in less than three days.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Definitely wasn&#8217;t expecting it to be open. And what, three days, 72 hours?&#8221; Johnson said.<\/p>\n<p>Others said the speed of the work exceeded expectations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So when they did that, I kind of liked the job they did,&#8221; said Dallas driver Tray McCoy.<\/p>\n<p>TxDOT said now crews are moving into the next stage, which will expand the I-30 corridor from six lanes to twelve.<\/p>\n<p>The agency said the expansion will help accommodate increased traffic and improve safety by eliminating left-side exits.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To accommodate that increased traffic capacity that we&#8217;re seeing,&#8221; said TxDOT spokesperson Kenna Mitchell. &#8220;The good news is the exits will not be on the left side anymore.
