ARLINGTON, Texas – A Texas father detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement won\u2019t be allowed to attend his son\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n
The family of Maher Tarabishi said ICE officials denied his request to attend his son\u2019s funeral.<\/p>\n
His 30-year-old son died last week after a lifetime battle with a rare disorder that causes severe muscle weakness and heart problems.<\/p>\n
Tarabishi was detained three months ago during a routine check-in.<\/p>\n
He was his son\u2019s sole caregiver, and the family said his son\u2019s health declined without his care.<\/p>\n
According to its website, ICE policy allows detainees to visit critically ill family members and attend funerals if they are escorted by immigration officials.<\/p>\n
But the family said requests to let Tarabishi see his son before he died and to attend his funeral were both denied.<\/p>\n
The family\u2019s attorney called the decision inhumane.<\/p>\n
