{"id":148967,"date":"2026-02-03T11:56:59","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T11:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/148967\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T11:56:59","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T11:56:59","slug":"scott-laidlaw-super-bowl-champion-with-cowboys-dead-at-72","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/148967\/","title":{"rendered":"Scott Laidlaw, Super Bowl champion with Cowboys, dead at 72"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scott Laidlaw, a former Super Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys during the 1970s, passed away late last week at 72 years old, according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n<p>The running back won a Super Bowl with Tom Landry\u2019s Cowboys in 1978 and was an integral part of the team\u2019s ball-control offense for four seasons in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p>No cause of death was listed for Laidlaw, who was one of the Cowboys\u2019 rookies who entered the league in 1975 as one of the \u201cDirty Dozen\u201d when 12 players made the team. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.67480469;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38360168\" width=\"398\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/scott-laidlaw.jpg\" alt=\"Dallas Cowboys player running with a football.\" class=\"wp-image-38360168\"  \/>Scott Laidlaw was a bruising fullback for the Cowboys in the mid-1970s.  Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>That group would go on to help lead the Cowboys to three Super Bowl appearances in the 1970s, which included Hall of Famer Randy White, Thomas \u201cHollywood\u201d Henderson, Bob Breunig, Pat Donovan and Herbert Scott, who were mainstays in Dallas for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>Laidlaw was selected in the 14th round of the NFL draft out of Stanford, where he made the All-Pac Eight second team in 1974.<\/p>\n<p>Laidlaw lined up as a running back and fullback for Dallas, accumulating 1,007 yards and nine rushing touchdowns over his six-year NFL career.<\/p>\n<p>He was a solid receiving threat out of the backfield as well, adding 668 receiving yards and three touchdowns, most of which were in his first four seasons in Dallas.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.48191027;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38360169\" width=\"874\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/laidlaw-dead.jpg\" alt=\"Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Dallas Cowboys football game.\" class=\"wp-image-38360169\"  \/>Scott Laidlaw won a Super Bowl as a member of the \u201cDirty Dozen\u201d with the Cowboys.
