There are still piles of nasty, stubborn snow around the Hub City, serving as a chilly reminder of the winter storm we all just muscled through. Drive\u00a0around\u00a0Lubbock\u00a0<\/a>long\u00a0enough, and you\u2019ll still see the icy leftovers stacked in parking lots, pushed into corners, and melting into questionable slush. It naturally brings up the big question: How do you feel about the snow-removal efforts from the City of Lubbock?<\/p>\n

From the reactions I gathered across social media, a solid chunk of folks weren\u2019t overly impressed \u2014 especially in the north and east parts of town. Those comments ranged from mild annoyance to full-on spicy takes about roads being left untouched for too long. But as always with Lubbock storms, context matters.<\/p>\n

Snow removal here is its own special beast. We simply don\u2019t deal with winter weather often enough to justify owning a fleet of top-tier snowplows like cities up north. Lubbock can\u2019t keep dozens of machines, drivers, and mechanics on standby year-round for something we might only need a week or two at most. Even maintaining the limited equipment we do have probably takes more prep time than most of us realize.<\/p>\n

As for how this particular round went: the north and east complaints may or may not be fully fair, since those are less populated areas with fewer primary roads. Some people also felt the crews didn\u2019t get ahead of the storm quickly enough, but that\u2019s subjective and heavily depends on where you live and when you were out.<\/p>\n

Grading Lubbock\u2019s Snow Removal: Better Than You Think?<\/p>\n

Taking everything at face value, I\u2019d give the city a solid B+ for this year\u2019s snow-removal efforts. And credit where it\u2019s due \u2014 thanks to all the workers who braved the ice and cold to get Lubbock moving again.<\/p>\n
