{"id":149443,"date":"2026-02-03T19:23:39","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T19:23:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/149443\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T19:23:39","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T19:23:39","slug":"black-art-in-america-fine-art-print-fair-returns-to-houston","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/149443\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Art in America Fine Art Print Fair Returns to Houston"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Black Art in America (BAIA), a Georgia-based advocacy and educational organization, has announced that its annual BAIA Fine Art Print Fair will be held at the Houston Museum of African American Culture, from Friday, February 6, through Sunday, February 8.<\/p>\n<p>Previously held in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., this is the second year the fair will visit Houston.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among hundreds of Black printmakers to be showcased at the fair are four featured artists: Jamaal Barber, an Atlanta-based printmaker who appeared on MTV\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wabe.org\/atlanta-artist-jamaal-barber-featured-on-mtvs-the-exhibit-finding-the-next-great-artist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The Exhibit: Finding the Next Great Artist<\/a> in 2023; Atlanta painter and printmaker Traci Mims, known for politically incisive woodcut portraiture; Katrina Andry, a New Orleans-based maker of large-scale prints; and Michael Ellison, long regarded for innovative, experimental printmaking techniques.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/glasstire.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/BAIAPrintFesti_006.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\" noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/BAIAPrintFesti_006-600x400.jpeg\" alt=\"A printmaker demonstrates inking a plate for a small audience.\" class=\"wp-image-354644\"  \/><\/a>Jamaal Barber gives a print demonstration at the 2025 Black Art in America Fine Art Print Fair<\/p>\n<p>Other notable artists to be presented in the BAIA Fine Art Print Fair are Faith Ringgold, Kerry James Marshall, Sam Gilliam, Betye Saar, Elizabeth Catlett, David Driskell, Romare Bearden, and artists with Texas ties, including <a href=\"https:\/\/glasstire.com\/2024\/08\/25\/floyd-newsum-1950-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Floyd Newsum Jr.<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/glasstire.com\/2025\/07\/04\/houston-artist-included-in-joan-mitchell-center-anniversary-exhibition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Robert Pruitt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/glasstire.com\/2017\/10\/29\/art-dirt-11-david-mcgee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">David McGee<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/glasstire.com\/2023\/12\/09\/powerful-pairings-in-witness-black-artists-in-texas-then-and-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">John Biggers<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/glasstire.com\/2025\/10\/02\/charles-criner-1945-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Charles Criner<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Najee Dorsey, founder of the BAIA Fine Art Print Fair, will give a talk on Saturday, February 7, at 11 a.m. According to the Black Art in America website, Mr. Dorsey\u2019s talk Fine Art Prints in a Contracting Market: Opportunity for the Next Generation of Collectors will examine \u201cdistinctions between traditional printmaking and photomontage-based fine art prints\u201d and \u201cthe growing acceptance of digital [prints] within institutions and private collections over the past decade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other programming during the fair will include The Power of the Print: Legacy and Wealth Through Fine Art Graphics, a conversation with Keith A. Golden, a Denver gallerist and publisher. Mr. Golden will speak on influential print portfolios, including projects by Sam Gilliam, Richard Mayhew, David Driskell, Paul Goodnight, Najee Dorsey, and others.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Andry will present Edible Magic \/ Don\u2019t Touch My Hair, an artist talk on Black womanhood and objectification followed by a printmaking demonstration.
