LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Stanton Taylor, a Lubbock native, was recently diagnosed with stage three Non-Hodgkin\u2019s lymphoma and is receiving support from his family and community as he goes through treatment.<\/p>\n

Taylor\u2019s wife, Kayla Jernigan, and their children, 6-year-old Violet and 2-year-old Maverick, have been by his side since the diagnosis. The family is preparing for the challenges ahead with the help of local supporters.<\/p>\n

Local restaurant organizes fundraiser<\/p>\n

Jernigan\u2019s co-workers are organizing a trunk or treat car show<\/a> to help the family pay medical bills. The event is scheduled for Tuesday in the parking lot of Twin Peaks Restaurant at 6012 Marsha Sharp Freeway.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just burst into tears, I\u2019m super grateful to have such a good community around us,\u201d Jernigan said. I\u2019m super thankful for all the people I work with and that they\u2019re just willing to go out of their way to make this happen for us and for our family,\u201d Jernigan said.<\/p>\n

The evening event will feature custom cars, costumes and candy for all ages. Registration fees will go to the Taylor family, but the event is open to the public to attend.<\/p>\n

All funds raised will go to Taylor and his family to help with cancer treatment costs along with other expenses.<\/p>\n

Family maintains optimism<\/p>\n

Taylor said the support from family, friends and the community keeps him optimistic about overcoming the diagnosis.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re the number one thing that keeps me going,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cI got my baby on the way and then we got Maverick and Violet, so every day I wake up and I look at it as a new day and I\u2019m blessed to be a part of my family to just continue to be there for them and I\u2019m not going anywhere, so that\u2019s my plan,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n

The family is taking each day as it comes while facing the unknowns of the long road ahead.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re learning every single day just like all of us are, but most importantly I think I just have to keep that joy. I have to keep that faith and give it to the great man upstairs,\u201d Taylor said. \u201cHe\u2019s the one who keeps me going, wakes me up every day, allows me to see my beautiful children and my beautiful wife, and I can\u2019t ask for anything else,\u201d Taylor said.<\/p>\n
