According to an arrest affidavit, Rojas was shot in the legs by officers after he opened fire on them from the back of a patrol unit.

During the hearing, the judge and prosecutors discussed the status of the case and Rojas’ request for a court-appointed attorney. He told the court he has not yet secured legal representation.

The affidavit states Rojas had a gun on him despite being searched by officers, which he then used to shoot at them while detained in the back of a squad car.

Rojas is currently on probation for possession of a firearm by a felon. His DPS criminal history shows multiple prior arrests, including a conviction for assault on a public servant, for which he received a two-year prison sentence.

The case was recently reassigned to Judge Missy Medary of the 347th District Court. Medary said the transfer occurred because Judge David Stith of the 319th District Court, who previously presided over the case, is close friends with a family member of one of the injured officers and recused himself.

Rojas’ bonds currently total $4.85 million dollars. Prosecutor Will Greenlee said the State plans to file a motion to increase the bond amount. Judge Medary noted that any bond-increase hearing would be scheduled for a later date.

Rojas had originally been booked on four counts of attempted capital murder. However, only three counts were read aloud in court on Tuesday.

Online court records show three counts of attempted capital murder, and it remains unclear why the fourth count was dropped. The District Attorney’s Office has been contacted for clarification.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

Ricardo Rojas, accused of shooting three Corpus Christi officers, appeared in court seeking a court-appointed attorney as prosecutors…

[14
155,157,156
0":"post-150082","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-corpus-christi","8":"tag-corpus-christi","9":"tag-corpus-christi-headlines","10":"tag-corpus-christi-news
["GET
