CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 A Sinton woman appeared in San Patricio Court today to ask for Habeus Corpus after being charged with Theft of Property > $300,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to court documents, Vanessa Slaton, a former employee of Epic Energy Services, stole over $1.6 million from the company while serving as an accountant.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The alleged thefts were discovered after co-owner Rebecca Bosworth conducted an internal audit of the company\u2019s accounts in January 2026. Court records say Bosworth identified numerous unauthorized electronic transfers and provided investigators with documentation showing transaction dates, amounts, and partial account numbers.<\/p>\n
The criminal complaints allege Slaton unlawfully transferred more than $300,000 at a time from company accounts into accounts in her own name without authorization, a first-degree felony under Texas law.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the money was transferred from Epic Energy Services accounts and deposited into accounts in Slaton\u2019s name. The filings state the transfers occurred over several months in 2025 and early 2026 and were grouped into separate charging periods, each exceeding the $300,000 felony threshold.<\/p>\n
In total, the five complaints allege more than $1.6 million was taken via through 43 unauthorized electronic transactions.<\/p>\n

Sources told 3NEWS Slaton requested a writ of habeas corpus during Tuesday\u2019s hearing in San Patricio County, but the request was denied by the court.<\/p>\n
