HOUSTON \u2013 A car slammed into a business at a strip center in southwest Houston Tuesday afternoon, causing damage but no reported injuries.<\/p>\n
The crash occurred at Locktopia Escape Room, located in the 5300 block of Weslayan Street, and was first reported around 2:45 p.m. <\/p>\n
The vehicle has since been pulled from the building and attached to a tow truck. <\/p>\n
Authorities have not released details on what caused the crash.<\/p>\n
In interviews with KPRC 2, Locktopia employees described a chaotic scene as the vehicle drove through the lobby and into the party room area.<\/p>\n
Employee Hannah Seymour, who was in the next room over from the lobby, said she and her coworker jumped and tried to move away from the wall closest to the area as the car barreled through.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt didn\u2019t sound like the car was stopping,\u201d Seymour said. \u201cWe thought it was going to keep coming through. When it cracked the interior wall, that\u2019s what really scared us. Thankfully, it stopped before causing any further impact.\u201d<\/p>\n
Seymour added that friends from a nearby business immediately checked on the driver.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey helped the driver out of the car, and he was able to walk away. From what I could observe, he didn\u2019t appear injured or impaired,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Mekdes Jima, assistant manager at Locktopia, said staff initially feared the car would continue moving through the building.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt first, we thought the car had stopped, but then we heard the back-room wall cracking. That\u2019s when we panicked and wondered if it was still moving,\u201d Jima said. \u201cI could hear [the driver] asking if everyone was okay. He got out of the car quickly and walked away. He didn\u2019t seem injured or passed out.\u201d<\/p>\n
No one inside the business was injured, and authorities have not reported any hospitalizations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen everything settled down, we went out through the front door\u2014or what used to be the front door,” Jima added.<\/p>\n
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
