EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The El Paso Museum of Art is set to reopen on Valentine’s Day following a $3.5 million upgrade that modernized its infrastructure and enhanced its environmental and security systems. <\/p>\n
“Thanks to this critical infrastructure investment, the El Paso Museum of Art maintains its standing among a small percentage of museums in the United States to adhere to the highest industry standards,” said Ben Fyffe, City of El Paso Quality of Life managing director. <\/p>\n
The reopening will feature the first-ever presentation in El Paso of “Frida Kahlo\u2013Sus Fotos,” an internationally acclaimed exhibition showcasing 241 photographs from Kahlo\u2019s personal archive. <\/p>\n
The exhibition offers an intimate glimpse into Kahlo\u2019s life and has attracted over one million visitors worldwide. <\/p>\n
Other new exhibitions include “Desert Rinpa” by Mitsumasa Overstreet, “Suzi Davidoff: Wander,” and “RAZI Projects,” alongside the return of the museum\u2019s permanent galleries, including the renowned Kress Collection. <\/p>\n
Opening day celebrations will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring hands-on art activities, live music, an educational presentation, and a curated art market. <\/p>\n
During the museum’s closure, EPMA staff engaged the community with nearly 50 off-site workshops and arts programs. <\/p>\n
“Even while the museum was closed, our team stayed active in the community,” Fyffe said. “Now, we are excited to welcome longtime supporters and first-time visitors alike to experience world-class exhibitions in a museum that is refreshed, updated, and ready for the future.” <\/p>\n
