Judge Rosie Speedlin-Gonzalez has been suspended without pay weeks out from a primary election where she faces a Democratic challenger.<\/p>\n

Speedlin-Gonzalez was indicted last week and charged with unlawful restraint of a judicial officer \u2014 the result of 2024 incident in which she had a defense attorney handcuffed in her courtroom. The attorney later filed a criminal complaint against her, according to KSAT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday the State Commission on Judicial Conduct issued an order<\/a> saying Speedlin-Gonzalez would remain suspended until the charges are dismissed or she\u2019s acquitted. <\/p>\n

Early voting for the March primary starts Feb. 17.<\/p>\n

Speedlin-Gonzalez was first elected to Bexar County Court-at-Law No. 13 in 2018. She also presides over a speciality court that focuses on first-time domestic violence offenders, known as the REFLEJO Court.<\/p>\n

All 15 county court judges are up for reelection this year, and Speedlin-Gonzalez is one of four facing a challenge from a fellow Democrat. She\u2019s up against Alicia \u201cAli\u201d Perez, an immigration lawyer and former Bexar County prosecutor. <\/p>\n
