The Balch Springs Police Department announced Thursday afternoon that an arrest had been made in relation to Wednesday morning’s shooting outside a local bank.<\/p>\n
“A suspect has been apprehended in connection with this incident and is currently in custody,” said Police Chief Brent Hurley in a press release. “There is no ongoing threat to the public. The suspect’s identity is not being released due to the investigation and judicial process.”<\/p>\n
The police department says more information will be provided on Friday.<\/p>\n
The FBI Dallas Field Office on Thursday also said the armored security guard shot and critically injured during the robbery remains hospitalized.<\/p>\n
The federal agency provided no further updates on the search for the armed robber accused of opening fire on the armored security guard employee, only stating “the investigation is ongoing.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Chase Bank location along Lake June Road near I-635 reopened Thursday afternoon following the violent attack.<\/p>\n
NBC 5 spotted an armed Lomis employee\u00a0working in the bank’s parking lot.<\/p>\n
While relatively rare,\u00a0these high-profile positions are sometimes targeted by brazen robbers, according to FBI statistics.<\/p>\n
According to federal authorities, the victim, an armored security guard who is not being publicly identified, was exchanging money at the ATM in the bank\u2019s drive-through area when an armed suspect dressed in black approached the guard, shot him and took off with a bag with an unknown amount of money.<\/p>\n
A witness who ran to help the injured man says she did not see a second security guard with the victim.<\/p>\n
NBC 5 spoke with employees at a hair salon who say they shared a bizarre situation with police in case there is a connection to the shooting.<\/p>\n
A woman, who asked not to be identified out of fear for her safety, says a suspicious man walked into the shop on Saturday and sat down in a chair without saying a word.<\/p>\n
“I went over to him, and I asked him what he wanted, but he just kept looking back there,” she said in Spanish, pointing to the back of the salon.<\/p>\n
Once police heard her account, she says they showed her pictures of the bank shooting suspect, which included a photograph of a tattoo on the back of his hand, and asked if it was the same man who came by on Saturday.<\/p>\n
