HOUSTON \u2013 Police are investigating a fatal crash on southbound Highway 288 near Southmore Boulevard after a male pedestrian was struck on the freeway.<\/p>\n
Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson said the call came in around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night. He said two drivers got into a minor accident on the freeway and pulled over to the shoulder to exchange information. <\/p>\n
During this exchange, the man stepped out into moving traffic and was struck by a vehicle. He was killed on scene.<\/p>\n
The driver of the vehicle stayed at the location until law enforcement arrived and showed no signs of intoxication.<\/p>\n
Police said they do not know if the man intentionally walked into traffic or was confused about where he was going. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you have a wreck on the freeway, get off the freeway just as soon as possible. Pulling over to the shoulder is safer than staying in a traffic lane, but being on these freeways – especially at night – is just so dangerous. Make contact with the other driver, agree to go to the next exit, and exchange information or wait for the police there,\u201d Lt. Crowson said.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
