<\/p>\n NEW ORLEANS \u2013 The New Orleans Privateers got off to a sharp start offensively and held off a late Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders rally in a 64-58 victory on Thursday night at Lakefront Arena. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\nThe win for the Privateers was their first over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi since 2019.
\n\u00a0
\nNew Orleans led by 10 points early in the fourth quarter after a pair of Lauren Banks<\/a> free throws with 7:01 remaining. From there, the Islanders made a late push and trimmed the lead down to two points with 2:24 left.
\n\u00a0
\nNew Orleans used a couple of free throws to get the lead back to two possessions. The defense clamped down on the Islanders in the closing minutes as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi had four missed shots and a turnover.
\n\u00a0
\nA step back jumper by Brialle Washington<\/a> with 19 seconds left put the finishing touches on a win where New Orleans forced 27 turnovers, the most in a game this season. They also outscored the Islanders 27-4 in points off turnovers.
\n\u00a0
\nAn aggressive Privateer defense forced 14 turnovers and turned those into 15 points in the opening 20 minutes. New Orleans also shot 50 percent in the first quarter to help set the tone.

\nHailee Brennen<\/a> scored seven points in the opening stanza and \u00a0Washington had six points off the bench to help guide the Privateers to a 21-18 lead after the first quarter.

\nThe Islanders quickly tied up the score early in the second quarter behind a K’nari Holliday layup but the Privateers got the lead back 45 seconds later on a Shanihya Brown<\/a> layup. New Orleans led for the remainder of the half. The Privateers carried a 38-32 advantage into the break.

\nFour Islanders scored in double figures and two had double-doubles. Trinity Slocum finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds. K’Nari Holliday had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

\nINSIDE THE BOX
\nWashington finished with 18 points and six steals. Brennen had 12 points and five rebounds. Brown scored 11 points and went 5-of-6 from the field. Banks finished with nine points and seven rebounds.
