Fort Worth has been ranked No. 1 in the nation for permitting efficiency, according to Labrynth\u2019s 2025 Red Tape Index 500, an analysis evaluating how quickly and effectively U.S. cities process development permits.<\/p>\n
The ranking, first reported by CRE Daily, evaluated 500 U.S. cities with populations of at least 50,000 using an AI-driven review of public data. Cities were assessed on permitting speed, transparency and communication, and year-over-year improvement.<\/p>\n
Fort Worth received an overall score of 0.96, placing it ahead of every other city evaluated nationwide.<\/p>\n
According to the analysis, the city\u2019s permitting performance reflects several years of investment in digital systems, streamlined workflows, and customer service improvements within the Development Services Department. City officials say those changes have helped reduce delays and improve predictability for developers moving projects from planning to construction.<\/p>\n

The index emphasized that permitting speed can directly influence project viability by affecting timelines, costs, and investor confidence.<\/p>\n
Fort Worth scored highly across all three evaluation categories. The report noted that the city\u2019s performance reflects deliberate reforms rather than short-term changes, positioning it as a national example of permitting efficiency as population growth and development continue.<\/p>\n
Two Texas cities appeared in the top 10 rankings, with Fort Worth placing first and Grand Prairie also making the list.<\/p>\n
