LUBBOCK, Texas \u2013\u00a0The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s tennis program is excited for a two-match swing with matches against Texas Tech (TTU) and New Mexico State (NMSU) in Lubbock this weekend. \nThe bottom of the lineup shined for the Vaqueros last week in a 5-2 loss at SMU. The Chilean duo of junior Santiago Serrano<\/a> and sophomore Loic Young Kriegel<\/a> kicked off the match with a dominant 6-2 victory on court three.
\n\u00a0
\nIn singles, Young carried over his success from doubles with a gritty, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10:4) win over Vikas Deo on court five.

\nOn court six, sophomore Tsz Him Chan earned his third win of the spring, wearing down Matthew Faraci in straight sets, a 6-4, 6-3 win.<\/p>\n

\nThe Vaqueros will make the trip to Lubbock for the fourth consecutive year, going 0-5 in that stretch against the Red Raiders. In the all-time series, UTRGV is 10-21 against TTU, with the Vaqueros last win, a 5-4 battle, coming in 1981.

\nIn the last matchup between these two squads, TTU earned a 7-0 sweep but pushed three singles matches to competitive third sets.
\n\u00a0
\nTTU, a member of the Big 12 Conference, is currently 2-2 on the season with wins over Southern Mississippi and Wichita State.

\nUTRGV will wrap up the weekend with a neutral-site battle against former conference foe NMSU at 10 a.m. Sunday. UTRGV is 5-14 all-time against the Aggies with their last win coming in 2024, a 5-2 victory in Edinburg.

\nIn the last matchup between these two teams, NMSU won a tight 5-2 match in Lubbock which saw the Vaqueros take the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. UTRGV earned a win on court six behind the play of Serrano but dropped the remaining five matches.

\nNMSU, a member of Conference USA, is currently 2-6 on the season with a 5-2 win over Weber State and a 4-1 win over UC Riverside.
