NORMAN, Okla. \u2013 UT Arlington men’s tennis is hitting the road for a pair of matchups this weekend, including its third bout against a team currently ranked in the ITA top 10. The Mavericks will open the weekend against the No. 10 ranked Oklahoma Sooners at 4 p.m. Saturday before facing the New Mexico Lobos at 10 a.m. Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both matches will be played at the Headington Family Tennis Center and Wadley Indoor Tennis Pavilion in Norman, Oklahoma.<\/p>\n
UTA (0-3) was last in action at the ITA Kickoff Weekend tournament, where it fell to No. 5 TCU 4-0 and Boise State 4-1. The Mavericks team point against Boise State was its first of the season, coming by way of Novak Ivanovic<\/a> defeating the Broncos’ Idriss Haddouch on Court 1 in singles action.<\/p>\n Finbar McGarvey<\/a> also won a set in his match 7-6 (11-9) against Boise State’s Stewart Aronson, but the match was left unfinished before the completion of the second set.<\/p>\n Axel Delva<\/a> and Yazid Lahjomri<\/a> had close calls in both matches on Court 1 during doubles play. TCU’s Cooper Woestendick and Oliver Bonding snuck away with a 6-4 win over the duo while the Broncos pairing of Carson Baker and Avery Tallakson outlasted Delva and Lahjomri 7-5.<\/p>\n Oklahoma holds an all-time series lead of 10-3 over UTA. This is the fifth season in a row the Mavericks and Sooners have faced off. Oklahoma has won the last nine matchups.\u00a0<\/p>\n Sunday’s match will be the fourth time New Mexico has ever faced UTA. The Lobos have thus far won all three matchups, including a hard-fought 4-3 win in 2025 in Arlington.<\/p>\n Scouting Oklahoma In doubles play, Rodriguez and Orel Kimhi make up the No. 32 ranked doubles team while Lacides and Bruno Nhavene form the No. 62 duo. Both teams won their matches against UCF.<\/p>\n Scouting New Mexico Dario Ciobotaru is 3-1 in the Lobos’ dual matches this spring, competing exclusively on Court 1.<\/p>\n Live stats for the Oklahoma match can be found here<\/a> while live stats for the New Mexico match can be found here<\/a>. \nThe 10th-ranked Sooners enter the weekend at 4-1, their lone loss coming by a narrow 4-3 margin to No. 9 UCF. Oklahoma features four singles players ranked in the top 125, led by No. 72 Oscar Lacides. Luis Alvarez \u2014 ranked No. 74 \u2014 Asahi Harazaki \u2014 No. 92 \u2014 and Johan Rodriguez \u2014 No. 107 \u2014 round out the players ranked in singles play for the Sooners.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nThe Lobos come to Norman with a 2-4 record. New Mexico opened the spring with victories over Idaho and Western New Mexico, but have since lost four straight, including a loss to then-10th ranked UCLA.<\/p>\n
