Plano figure skater Amber Glenn<\/a> is about to compete in the biggest competition of her career when she makes her Olympic debut in the women\u2019s singles event at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Games<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Glenn, 26, is also well aware of the platform that achievement affords her.<\/p>\n

“I know that a lot of people say you\u2019re just an athlete, stick to your job, shut up about politics, but politics affect us all,” Glenn said ahead of the Olympics<\/a>. \u201cIt is something that I will not just be quiet about because it is something that affects us in our everyday lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Glenn, who identifies as pansexual, offered her perspective on the challenges the LGBTQ+ community has faced under President Donald Trump\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a hard time for the community overall under this administration. It isn\u2019t the first time that we\u2019ve had to come together as a community and try and fight for our human rights, and now, especially, it\u2019s not just affecting the queer community, but many other communities and I think that we are able to support each other in a way that we didn\u2019t have to before and because of that, it\u2019s made us a lot stronger,\u201d Glenn said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI hope I can use my platform and my voice throughout these games to try and encourage people to stay strong in these hard times.\u201d<\/p>\n

It isn\u2019t the first time<\/a> the three-time U.S. national champion has spoken out against the Trump administration\u2019s policies on LGBTQ+ issues. <\/p>\n

\u201cBoth of my grandpas were in the military. I was raised in Texas, a proud American,\u201d Glenn told The Associated Press. \u201c[Trump\u2019s 2024 election] was so disheartening. It made me feel even closer to the community around me, because we had to come together to try and protect ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
