Crowds lined the streets of Old Town on Monday morning for a chance to see the monks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dhammacetiya.com\/walk-for-peace\/live-map\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The map of the monks\u2019 route<\/a> shows they will walk along George Washington Memorial Parkway and Richmond Highway (Route 1). Police in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexandriava.gov\/news-apd\/2026-02-07\/what-to-know-ahead-of-the-walk-for-peace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alexandria <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.arlingtonva.us\/About-Arlington\/Newsroom\/Articles\/2026\/TRAFFIC-ALERT-Walk-for-Peace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Arlington <\/a>have warned of road closures. (See below for detailed info.)<\/p>\n<p>Along the monks&#8217; path, emotional crowds have met them with flowers and signs.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMonks who have walked toward D.C. for more than 100 days with a message of peace passed through Spotsylvania County, Virginia. \u201cI came to get a blessing,\u201d one member of the crowd said. Others were in tears as they spoke about the importance of the monks\u2019 message. Others were in tears as they spoke about the importance of the monks\u2019 message.<\/p>\n<p>What to know about road closures as the monks make their way to DC<\/p>\n<p>Rolling road closures are expected in Alexandria until about 2 p.m. Monday and in Arlington on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Alexandria: Police said to expect rolling closures on:<\/p>\n<p>George Washington Memorial Parkway<\/p>\n<p>Cameron Street between Washington Street and Alfred Street<\/p>\n<p>Columbus Street between King Street and Queen Street<\/p>\n<p>Police said: \u201cMembers of the public are welcome to gather outside Christ Church to listen to the monks\u2019 message of peace. Remarks are expected to last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. No additional public events are planned to follow the conclusion of the remarks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From there, the monks are expected to head:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNorth on N. Washington Street from Christ Church<\/p>\n<p>West on Montgomery St.<\/p>\n<p>North on Route 1\/N. Patrick St. To S. Glebe Rd.<\/p>\n<p>Departing Alexandria, the group will continue into Arlington County via Route 1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re parked in the affected area, you may not be able to move your car, police said. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexandriava.gov\/news-apd\/2026-02-07\/what-to-know-ahead-of-the-walk-for-peace\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Go here for more info.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Arlington: The monks are expected to pass through Arlington starting early Monday afternoon and into Tuesday. \u201cOfficial time is dependent on their progress and well-being,\u201d police said. They shared this info on their route:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDepart Alexandria and enter Arlington County along Route 1<\/p>\n<p>Right onto Crystal Drive<\/p>\n<p>Crystal Drive becomes 12th Street S.<\/p>\n<p>Right onto Army Navy Drive<\/p>\n<p>Right onto S. Joyce Street<\/p>\n<p>Left onto Columbia Pike<\/p>\n<p>Right onto Washington Boulevard<\/p>\n<p>Right onto N. Glebe Road<\/p>\n<p>End at Marymount University \u2013 Upon arrival, there will be short welcoming remarks from Marymount University President Irma Becerra, followed by brief remarks from the monks. Members of the general public may stand in front of the Administration Building (Rixey Mansion) to watch and listen to the short welcome. The remarks are expected to last approximately 5\u201310 minutes. After the remarks conclude, no additional public events are planned.<\/p>\n<p>For the safety of spectators, we ask that you do not line the route on Monday at the following locations:<\/p>\n<p>S. Joyce Street from Army Navy Drive to Columbia Pike<\/p>\n<p>Columbia Pike from S. Joyce Street to Washington Boulevard<\/p>\n<p>Washington Boulevard from Columbia Pike to N. Pershing Drive<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, February 10 \u2013 Expected to begin at 7 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Depart Marymount University \u2013 No public event scheduled at Marymount University<\/p>\n<p>Right onto N. Glebe Road<\/p>\n<p>Right onto Chain Bridge Road<\/p>\n<p>Exit Arlington County<\/p>\n<p>For the safety of spectators, we ask that you do not line the route on Tuesday at the following location: N. Glebe Road from N.
