A 58-year-old woman was hospitalized early Monday morning after being shot<\/a> while wielding a knife and approaching a man at a gas station in Arlington<\/a>, police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to a gas station in the 2600 block of E Lamar Boulevard after reports of a shooting around 3:50 a.m.<\/p>\n

Responding officers located the woman, whose identity was not released, on the ground with a gunshot wound to one of her legs, the statement said. <\/p>\n

She was transported to a hospital in serious condition, the statement said. As of 1:45 p.m. Monday, police said they believe she is still in the hospital, though they did not say if there was a change in her condition.<\/p>\n

After speaking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, investigators determined the woman approached a Jeep parked at one of the gas pumps and struck the vehicle with the knife, the statement said.<\/p>\n

An unidentified man was pumping gas into that Jeep while his wife sat inside the vehicle, according to the statement.<\/p>\n

The man moved to another vehicle nearby, and the woman followed him. He retrieved a gun and warned the woman, who continued to approach him. He then fired a shot, striking her in the leg, the statement said.<\/p>\n

The man and his wife were not injured and remained on scene to cooperate with the investigation. Police said no charges have been filed at this time.<\/p>\n

It does not seem like the couple knew the woman, the statement said.<\/p>\n

No further information about the shooting was immediately available.<\/p>\n
