According to a statement on the movie theater company’s website, franchise partner Triple Tap Ventures closed the Katy location along with two El Paso theaters and one in Lubbock.

The 8-screen theater in Katy first opened in July 2018. The first Houston-area Alamo Drafthouse opened in 2003 in the West Oaks Mall. The company started in Austin in 1997 and made a name for itself by serving dinner and drinks during movie screenings, a service that has become widespread in the cinema industry.

Sign up for the Hello, Houston! daily newsletter to get local reports like this delivered directly to your inbox.

Alamo Drafthouse was bought by Sony Pictures Experiences in 2024 after filing for bankruptcy.

The company said those who had pre-ordered tickets should receive an automatic refund via email. Those who purchased tickets via Fandango and Atom Tickets will need to reach out to the respective seller for refunds. Any questions regarding ticket refunds should be sent to comments.lacenterra@ttv-alamo.com, according to Alamo Drafthouse, which said season pass subscribers will have their subscription automatically cancelled and a prorated refund will be issued.

The closure of several Texas locations comes less than a month after the company faced controversy for changing its ordering policy to require customers to use their cell phones to place orders. Alamo Drafthouse previously prided itself on not allowing cell phones and having audience members order via paper and pencil.

Michael Adkison/HPM The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema sign being removed from the Katy location on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026.…

[7
64808,64809,64810,1174,18151,1223,910,56,58,57,66,223,64811,27,64387
post-157432","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-houston","tag-alamo-drafthouse-closure","tag-alamo-drafthouse-houston","tag-alamo-drafthouse-katy","tag-arts-culture","tag-arts-culture-business","tag-austin-texas","tag-business","tag-houston","tag-houston-headlines","tag-houston-news","tag-local","tag-news","tag-sony-pictures-experiences","tag-texas","tag-triple-tap-ventures
["GET
