{"id":157620,"date":"2026-02-10T00:29:13","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T00:29:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/157620\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T00:29:13","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T00:29:13","slug":"24-year-old-sentenced-to-two-life-sentences-in-fatal-shooting-of-a-5-year-old-and-17-year-old-in-north-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/157620\/","title":{"rendered":"24-year-old sentenced to two life sentences in fatal shooting of a 5-year-old and 17-year-old in North Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to two life sentences in prison after a jury found him guilty of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/anthony-ray-bell-johnson-arrested-steel-dust-drive-double-homicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">killing a 5-year-old and a 17-year-old in Fort Worth in 2022<\/a>, officials said Monday.<\/p>\n<p>On August 28, 2022, Anthony Bell-Johnson and others he knew, including then-16-year-old Jay Shawn Nixon-Clark, drove through a neighborhood in northwest Fort Worth and parked near a home on Steel Dust Drive. According to court documents, Bell-Johnson, Nixon-Clark and the others sat and watched the residence where teenagers and children were playing in the garage with the door open for three minutes and 19 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/anthony-ray-bell-johnson.jpg#.jpeg\" alt=\"anthony-ray-bell-johnson.jpg \" height=\"348\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                  Anthony Ray Bell-Johnson<\/p>\n<p>                Fort Worth Police Department<\/p>\n<p>Officials said Bell-Johnson and Nixon-Clark then got out of the vehicle wearing masks and carrying high-powered automatic rifles, ran toward the house and opened fire. Bell-Johnson fired his weapon at least 16 times, court documents state.<\/p>\n<p>After they finished shooting, Bell-Johnson and Nixon-Clark   returned to their vehicle and fled the scene. Jamarrien Monroe, 17, and his cousin, Rayshard Javon Scott, 5, were killed. Other family members, including Monroe&#8217;s 18-month-old son, were injured.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He absolutely knew what he was doing,&#8221; said Tarrant County Assistant District Attorneys Bill Vassar, who prosecuted the case with Melinda Hogan.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They executed two of those children,&#8221; Hogan told the jury. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Five days later, the keys to the getaway car were found in Bell-Johnson&#8217;s pocket. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bell-Johnson was also sentenced to pay $20,000 in fines.\u00a0  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/texas\/news\/teen-life-in-prison-fatal-shooting-5-year-old-17-year-old-north-texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-absolute=\"true\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\">Nixon-Clark, now 20, was found guilty of capital murder<\/a> in this case last year.
