For some at TCU, they would consider coffee a necessity to get through the day. From Starbucks at the Brown Lupton University Union to Pete\u2019s coffee at Neeley and Ampersand on University Drive, TCU\u2019s locale offers several options<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The history behind coffee<\/p>\n

For centuries, coffee has been a staple for many cultures and a drink that brings cultures together.<\/p>\n

According to legend dating back to 850 BCE, an Ethiopian shepherd named Kaldi was herding his goats when, to his surprise, they became energized and hyper. He tried the berries they were eating himself and he also felt energized. Coffee became popular in ancient cultures in the Americas as well.<\/p>\n

Modern coffee has expanded to countless flavors and drink varieties. Beyond the drink, most coffee shops have become an \u201cexperience as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

Momento Cafe, a coffee shop on 6th Avenue, reflects American\/Mexican culture through their menu options, blending modern lattes and ancient recipes such as \u201ccaf\u00e9 de olla.\u201d Experientially, they don\u2019t offer WiFi. They offer vinyl record players and an assortment of books and vinyls for reading and listening in a smaller, more intimate space.<\/p>\n

Gen Z coffee culture<\/p>\n

Older generations typically started drinking coffee when they were 18 to 20 years old, but Gen Z would say they started as early as 15 years old, Jeff Fromm writes in an article on Forbes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gen Z is also more likely to order a cold coffee opposed to an older population that usually tends towards the morning trend of hot coffee.<\/p>\n
