Greg Abbott announced Oct. 21.<\/p>\n<p>Explained<\/p>\n<p>The project, which has been designated as a qualified initiative under the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology and Innovation (JETI) program, is expected to begin operations by summer 2026. Once complete, the facility will serve the Electric Reliability Council of Texas\u2019 Houston Load Zone\u2014including Houston, Pasadena and The Woodlands\u2014helping meet growing energy demands across the fifth-largest metro area in the U.S., according to the release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTexas energy powers our state\u2019s booming economy,\u201d Abbott said in the news release. \u201cThis $360 million investment by NRG in Harris County is a significant advancement in Texas&#8217; energy infrastructure.
