{"id":160221,"date":"2026-02-11T17:15:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-11T17:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/160221\/"},"modified":"2026-02-11T17:15:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-11T17:15:09","slug":"texas-ag-settles-with-cal-maine-foods-over-price-gouging-claims-jeff-greenbaum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/160221\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas AG Settles With Cal-Maine Foods Over Price Gouging Claims, Jeff Greenbaum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month, Cal-Maine Foods reached a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasattorneygeneral.gov\/news\/releases\/attorney-general-ken-paxton-secures-over-two-million-free-eggs-texans-part-historic-settlement-cal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">settlement<\/a> with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, resolving allegations that the company engaged in price gouging in connection with the company&#8217;s sale of eggs during the pandemic. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In April 2022, the Texas AG sued Cal-Maine, alleging that the company had illegally raised the price of eggs by around 300% during the pandemic. \u00a0Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/statutes.capitol.texas.gov\/?tab=1&amp;code=BC&amp;chapter=BC.17&amp;artSec=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">law<\/a> prohibits companies from taking advantage of a disaster declared by the state&#8217;s governor by selling fuel, food, medicine, lodging, building materials, construction tools, and other necessities at an \u201cexorbitant or excessive price.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As part of the settlement, Cal-Maine agreed to donate more than 2 million eggs to food banks across Texas. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In announcing the settlement, Paxton said, &#8220;My office will crack down on any corporation illegally raising prices on Texans. \u00a0Cal-Maine tried to take advantage of the people of Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic, and this settlement is an important step towards securing justice for the company\u2019s unethical actions.
