\t\t\t\t\t\t\tProgress is moving forward on the construction of the Allen Police Department\u2019s new headquarters building.<\/a><\/p>\n

Allen<\/a> City Council unanimously approved a $1.6 million amendment to its contract with Core Construction Services<\/a> for the new Allen Police Department Headquarters at a Feb. 10 meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n

The amendment will not change the overall cost of the project, Director of Engineering Chris Flanigan said.<\/p>\n

The specifics<\/p>\n

The Allen Police Department will move into a new $97.1 million facility in early 2027 after voters passed an $83 million bond<\/a> in 2023 to contribute funding to the project. In June, Allen City Council approved the final guaranteed maximum price of about $67.7 million, bringing the total budget to $97.1 million, city documents state.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe end result will be a building that is situated immediately adjacent to City Hall<\/a> with very similar architecture to complete the civic campus in terms of look, as well as functionality for the police department,\u201d Flanigan said.<\/p>\n

The contract amendment will include the installation and programming of all security systems within the main building, as well as the detainment area, per city documents.<\/p>\n

This includes:<\/p>\n

Over 130 badge readersOver 123 security camerasFour intercom systemsToll tag readersLocks for the detention centerSoftware and programmingSometimes during large projects, the city will not include items such as furniture or light fixtures in the general construction contract in hopes of outsourcing to another company and saving money, Flanigan said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCore Construction came in as best value, and that\u2019s a win-win for us,\u201d Flanigan said.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead<\/p>\n

The building will be \u201cdried in\u201d in early summer, which means the majority of the remaining work is focused on the interior, Flanigan said.<\/p>\n
