Frisco may be \u201cSports City USA,\u201d but another North Texas city could step into the spotlight<\/p>\n

When the Dallas Stars hit the ice in 2001 at American Airlines Center, they share the stage with the Dallas Mavericks. That arrangement has lasted for more than two decades, but it won\u2019t be permanent. With both teams\u2019 leases set to expire in 2031, the Stars are weighing their options for a new home. Plano is reportedly among the cities in the mix.<\/p>\n

The Mavericks are already deep into plans for their own new arena and potential casino development. The Stars, meanwhile, are exploring their own future home.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Plano In The Conversation<\/p>\n

Front Office Sports reports<\/a> that the Dallas Stars have been in talks with Plano, among other cities, though no decision has been made. Staying in Dallas remains a possibility, but the organization isn\u2019t limiting its options.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t deny we are in discussions with Plano,\u201d Stars president and CEO Brad Alberts told Front Office Sports. The team already runs a youth hockey facility in the city and maintains its practice facility in Frisco.<\/p>\n

A Stars spokesperson also confirmed to Local Profile: \u201cThe Dallas Stars are continually evaluating all options for the home of our franchise in North Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Plano officials, however, are remaining quiet. Amanda McNew, the city\u2019s director of media relations, told Local Profile she was unable to comment at this time.<\/p>\n

But What About Frisco?<\/p>\n

Any potential move by the Stars would happen in a competitive North Texas landscape where cities vie for marquee sports tenants. Just a few miles from Plano, Frisco has branded itself as \u201cSports City USA<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Dallas Cowboys, the Frisco RoughRiders, FC Dallas, the Texas Legends and the PGA of America<\/a> all call Frisco home, alongside five major stadiums, championship-level training facilities and an expanding ecosystem in sports medicine<\/a>, research and eSports.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrisco has become ground zero for sports in the U.S.,\u201d said FC Dallas Vice President of Media Gina Miller in an official statement<\/a>. \u201cWe have a rabid fan base for every sport, and for every level from pee wee to pro, and event organizers recognize that.\u201d<\/p>\n

With more than a dozen professional and collegiate organizations, Frisco is one of only a handful of U.S. cities hosting nine or more pro teams. That distinction has made it one of the fastest-growing and most desirable destinations for sports business and fans alike.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Next For The Stars?<\/p>\n

For now, the Stars\u2019 future home remains undecided. Dallas, Plano and potentially other cities are all on the table, and with six years left before the current lease expires, there\u2019s still time for negotiations. What\u2019s clear is that North Texas has become one of the most dynamic sports hubs in the country, and the Dallas Stars will be looking for a home that matches their ambitions.<\/p>\n
